Sync or Psyche - Blog by Toni Fraser

God lays the foundations of faith in us. As followers of Jesus we can learn that we are in the world but not of the world (John 17:14-16). We learn the promises of God are ‘Yes and Amen’ (2 Corinthians 1-20). We learn that in our weakness God is strong (2 Corinthians 12:9).  We learn, we don’t need to lean on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). These are all ‘significant’ differences in living with the inheritance of heaven through being a follower of Jesus.

The difference is, is that we can sync ourselves into what God says, his truths and how life really is, instead of how we perceive things to be (Ephesians 6:10)!   It’s true, life does throw us around a bit, and we can feel like we’re buckled into a, white knuckle, roller coaster ride. However, would our life be so turbulent if we synced ourselves into our inheritance and truths of God rather than psyching ourselves up for the ride of our lives in our own strengths?

Here’s a personal example, many years ago I had a hard time at work.  I became so stressed, I couldn’t sleep well or eat well and eventually, I dreaded going into work.  I used to park up my car outside to psyche myself up in preparation.  I would pray prayers that I already had the answer to, for example ‘God will you protect me, will you be near me?’.  I think God must have felt sorry for me in the end because he interrupted me with ‘Yes, I already am near you…’ He then reminded me that we are not fighting flesh and blood (people) but the spiritual rulers of this world, aka, the baddies. He also lay on my heart, the fact that the battle, I am facing, has already been won!

Believing this, rather than my feelings of dread and anticipation, meant my spirit was lifted from dread to victory and relief!  That, lovely readers, is the power of our inheritance, for every follower of Jesus.

Here’s a syncing in tip: ‘thank you God that you are with me’.  instead of, ‘God please be with me’, this is because he already is with you, you really don’t need to ask him.

It’s a bit like me pleading with my husband to come and have dinner with me when he is sat opposite me, having dinner with me!

Very helpful advice, especially the part on thanking Him for being with us because He already is!
